Medical Update for Savvy

10/18/11

Good morning,
Today we continue to watch Savvy for Brain Swelling.  There is an ICP number (Inter Cranial Pressure) that we will be reporting on.  A healthy person has an ICP of approx 5-8, and the danger zone starts around 25.  Right now her ICP is at a 12 which is the best its been in the past 24 hours.  Her sits around 17-18.

Right now her injuries include: a broken tibula and fibia (both the bones in between her knee and her ankle) on the right leg that has been under surgery, a right pelvic fracture that will need to be pinned, a left pelvic fracture that is minor, a fracture of her L5 vertebrae, a broken scapula (shoulder blade), a fracture at the base of her skull, and the bones above her eye brows are also fractured.  On a good note! her hands and arms seem to be fine!

Internally: her lungs are bruised, her kidney is bruised and has a laceration which is bleeding and filling her stomach with blood.  All other organs seem to be working well.

Our greatest concerns are obviously with her head.  She suffered significant head trauma in the accident and a loss of oxygen after coding twice in the ER.  She has multiple small hemorrhages throughout her brain.

Our second concern is with a blood clot that has formed in her right leg.  They are currently unable to treat it with blood thinners due to the bleeding in her brain and abdomen, so we just have to pray that the clot resolves its self before it reaches her lungs.

Even with this list of obstacles she has given us reason to hope! We are told that she is able to breath on her own even though she's intibated.  She also coughed when she was rolled over yesterday and all of her vitals continue to be stable.

The doctors and their team of fellows and nurses have been so wonderful! We have appreciated their tender loving care.  Please continue to pray for them and Savannah as they fight together to make her well again.  And, as always remember to smile with us.
